Love
All I can do
is pray.
Not even in words
but through my look –
by peeping into a child's eyes.
There, in these big eyes,
a Universe lies,
black as a vinyl disk
with the golden scratches of constellations.
All I can do
is pray.
Not even through my eyes,
but through my hands
stroking the fair tresses,
smelling of pancakes
and hot chocolate.
All I can do is love
as long as I live.

Marjana Savka is a Ukrainian poet, children's writer, translator, editor and publisher based in Lviv. She has published many books of poetry for adults and children, and her works have been translated into a number of languages. English translations of her poetry have been published in American magazines and anthologies.
