JEFFREY HECKER The Monastery Little neighborhoods and you live past a trail to the monastery. Monks operate a tannery – sell the same men's wallets. Though you may phone monks regularly, monks prefer to text back – the town donated a sophisticated switchboard, voicemail options depend on specific need – delivery, lost soul. Only Tuesdays, different monks – tones consistent, anxious, in a rush – answer on the first ring "Monastery Tannery, what do you want?" Jeffrey Hecker currently resides in Norfolk, Virginia, where he teaches at The Muse Writers Center. He is the author of Rumble Seat (San Francisco Bay Press, 2011) and the chapbooks Hornbook (Horse Less Press, 2012), Instructions for the Orgy (Sunnyoutside Press, 2013), Before He Let Them Guide Sleigh (ShirtPocket Press, 2013) and Ark Aft (The Magnificent Field, 2020). Recent work has appeared in La Fovea, LEVELER, decomP, Entropy, BOAAT, Dream Pop Journal, and DELUGE. |
