DEIRDRE FEEHAN Moments Of It's Friday and the end of the world, and I like leather shoes and, notepad in hand, am planning my birthday party. Not certain who'll be able to come, but I am listing gift ideas: lavender sachets, potted orchids, truffles. My neighbor has his dog on a lead, expecting there will be somewhere to run, as if from a fire, instead of from an exploding apocalypse. The spewing lava is quite red, steamy and gooey, almost like icing on a Christmas cake. We are both outside, staring up at the falling sky, quite still in our last moments of envy and awe. Deirdre Feehan is from California. Her work has appeared in Byzantium, Emerald Bolts, RipRap, Slow Trains, The Ampersand, Binnacle, and the California Current winter series. She is the author of two novels. |
