Pastoral Contempt
The angel behind the angel, impaled
through the wing by the stretcher pole,
could still plié and pinch and pluck
the canvas tents littered on the forest floor,
snatching them like food-stained napkins
from the unfortunate lace tablecloth.
And while this horizontal collaboration
continues, let no one forget the miniature
mannequin spinning in a frozen pirouette
atop the crown of the empty water tower.
